Dou Shou Qi, known as Jungle or Animal Chess, is played on a 7×9 board with two lakes, trap squares and two dens. Each animal steps one cell orthogonally and captures any enemy of equal or lower rank: Rat, Cat, Dog, Wolf, Leopard, Tiger, Lion, Elephant. The Rat alone swims and alone can take the Elephant, but never from the water. Lion and Tiger leap a whole lake unless a Rat lurks in it. An enemy piece on your trap loses all rank. Reach the opposing den to win.
