You're shown two example groups of figures that differ by one hidden rule. New figures arrive one at a time and you decide whether each belongs on the left or the right. Before each call you set a confidence wager, get it right and you earn more, get it wrong and you lose more. Sort every newcomer correctly to certify the rule.

The original addition is the confidence wager placed before each call.

That measures something a plain score cannot. Induction gives you a hypothesis and a degree of belief in it, and the second half is normally invisible — a lucky guess and a certainty look identical on a tally. Pricing your confidence separates knowing the rule from suspecting it.
