The original element is the adversarial distractor: one candidate is a mirror twin that differs only in handedness.
That targets the exact thing mental rotation cannot do. Rotation preserves chirality — you can turn a shape any way you like and never convert it into its mirror image — so the mirror twin is unreachable by the mental operation you are using, and catching it requires reasoning about orientation rather than simulating the fold.
