Only the next-in-sequence chamber is a legal move, a wrong turn bounces you all the way back to the lungs. Oxygen decays in real time and reloads at the lungs, so keep moving. The double loop is the thing people get wrong. Blood passes through the heart twice per circuit — once to the lungs, once to the body — so the heart is two pumps side by side, which explains why the left ventricle is so much thicker than the right.
