Chesseract

Real chess with real teeth — duel the computer on a classic board, or survive a four-player melee where three opponents close in at once.

How to play

Chesseract plays full-rules chess. Develop your pieces, control the centre, and deliver checkmate by trapping the enemy king. The four-player board scales the same ideas up to a chaotic crown grab where alliances and timing decide everything.

• Classic mode: standard 8x8 chess with castling, en passant and pawn promotion.
• Checkmate the opposing king to win; stalemate draws as usual.
• Four-player free-for-all rewards captures and mates with points; teams pit two pairs against each other.
• Promote pawns through a piece-picker, and undo a slip with one take-back per turn.

Controls

• Desktop: click a piece to select it, then click its destination; use the on-screen buttons to flip the board, undo or resign.
• Phone & tablet: the classic board is built for mouse and click input, so a desktop or laptop is recommended for the smoothest play.

Game modes

• Play vs AI: choose easy, medium or hard, set a time control, and even pick the opening the engine answers with.
• Pass & play: two people share one device on the classic board, or four on the multi-player board.
• Play online: create an invite, join with a code, or jump into a quick match against another person.
• Four-player: face three AI rivals, watch the engines battle, or seat four humans — in free-for-all, teams or last-king-standing survival.

Tips & strategy

• Castle early to tuck your king away before the board opens up.
• Against the AI's opening choices, study its first few moves — knowing the line lets you prepare a sharp counter.
• In four-player, avoid overextending: the player who attacks first often gets ganged up on by the other two.
• Trade down to a winning endgame rather than chasing flashy sacrifices that leave you exposed.
