Every turn you collect salary plus passive income and pay your expenses — but expenses climb relentlessly each turn. From the market you buy income-producing assets to build a stream of money that doesn't depend on your job. The moment passive income covers your expenses, you escape. Your assets then become relics that carry into the next, harder race.

• Buy income early; the expense ratchet means every turn you wait makes the gap harder to close
• Don't drain your cash to zero on one big asset and get caught by an expense spike
