A reconciliation puzzle where one document in the pile carries a wrong number, and only careful arithmetic will catch it before you file.
Was this fun?
How to play
You're handed a set of income, deduction, and credit documents. The return is computed live from them, but exactly one figure doesn't reconcile. Find and click that document before filing.
Read the gross income, deductions, taxable income, marginal tax, and credits as they total up.
Click the one document whose amount doesn't add up; a wrong pick costs you and you keep hunting.
Drag the marginal-bracket slider, or hit the raise button, to see how only the income inside each band is taxed at its rate.
Use a Hint if you're stuck (it costs score). Score rewards catching the mismatch fast with few wrong guesses and hints.
Controls
Desktop: click documents, drag the bracket slider, click Daily / Practice / Hint buttons.
Phone & tablet: tap documents and buttons, drag the slider with your finger.
Tips & strategy
Sanity-check each figure against the others, a deduction or credit that's wildly off is usually the tell.
Watch the effective rate stay below the top marginal rate; a raise never lowers your take-home, which the bracket bars prove.
