Fair Share

Split what isn't enough to go around — then meet the veil of ignorance.

How to play

Each case hands you a fixed pool of water, doses, grain or credits and four claimants who each need a slice. You allocate the whole pool first behind a 'veil' — not knowing which claimant you'll turn out to be — and then again once your role is revealed. The game compares the two splits to expose any self-interest that crept in.

• Move every slider until the pool is allocated exactly to the total — no more, no less
• Lock in your behind-the-veil split, learn who you are, then decide again
• A verdict scores how coherently your split follows a principle and how impartial you stayed

Controls

• Desktop: drag the sliders, click the principle shortcut buttons (Equality, Need, Merit, Maximin) and the confirm button
• Phone & tablet: tap and drag the sliders, tap the buttons — fully touch-friendly

Tips & strategy

• Use the principle shortcut buttons to see how Equality, Need, Merit and Maximin each carve up the pool
• To score well on impartiality, give your future self the same amount before and after the role is revealed
