Tafl Tunnels

The ancient asymmetric siege gets an escape hatch — the king can dig his way out, but only twice.

How to play

The king's side races to escort him to a corner; the besiegers try to surround and capture him. Pieces move in straight lines like a rook.

• Capture an enemy piece by sandwiching it between two of yours
• The king can dig up to two one-use tunnels to slip past the wall
• Defenders win by reaching a corner; attackers win by trapping the king

Controls

• Desktop: click a piece, then click a highlighted square; use the Dig Tunnel button then click a glowing arrow
• Phone & tablet: full touch support — tap to move and to dig

Game modes

• Versus computer — Easy, Medium, or Hard
• Two-player hotseat on one device
• Online multiplayer

Tips & strategy

• As defender, save a tunnel for the moment the ring closes
• As attacker, block the corners and tighten the net patiently
• Watch the king's escape lanes before committing your pieces
