Stroke Order

A letter is shown with its strokes numbered in the correct sequence. Trace each stroke in order and direction to form the letter neatly, then move through the rest of the word until it is fully written.

• Trace each stroke following the numbered order
• Start and move in the indicated direction
• Complete every letter to build the whole word
• Accurate, in-order tracing scores best

• Desktop: press and drag with the mouse to trace each stroke
• Phone & tablet: trace with your finger directly on the letter

• Daily: a shared seeded word set ranked globally
• Practice: fresh words each round at varying difficulty

• Begin each stroke exactly on its start point, drifting off costs accuracy
• Smooth, steady drags track better than fast, jerky ones
• Learn the common pattern: most letters start at the top and work left to right

Stroke Order guides correct letter formation through tracing, building the handwriting foundation that supports early literacy.

• Skills: letter formation, handwriting, fine-motor control, letter recognition
• Best for: roughly grades K–2 (ages 4–7)
• For parents & teachers: structured handwriting practice with guided strokes.

Forming each letter by tracing its strokes in a prescribed sequence and direction is penmanship instruction, and the idea of a fixed stroke order is borrowed from writing systems where it is non-negotiable.

Applying it to the Latin alphabet is the original transfer.

The sequence matters more than it looks. Letters written in the wrong order are legible in isolation and fall apart at speed, because joined writing depends on each letter ending where the next one starts — which is why handwriting instruction teaches the path and not just the shape.
