Roller Grid draws on the lattice-painting maze game of the early 1980s, a small and short-lived arcade form — Amidar in 1982 is its best-known example, though several cabinets worked the same idea.
You do not clear dots; you trace the edges of a grid, and completing the four sides of a box fills it in. That changes the geometry of a chase completely: retreating along a line you have already painted earns nothing, so the safe move and the scoring move are usually opposites. Enemies patrol the same lines you must travel, which is what stops the board being solved by simply walking every edge in order.
