Shroomfield
A maze-building defense where you reshape the field to trap a segmented crawler that splits every time it's hit.
How to play
There's no avatar to steer — you play as the field itself. Plant mushroom walls and lethal hazards across the grid to build a maze that reroutes the segmented crawler winding down through it. Every hit splits the creature and multiplies your problem, so good level design, not fast reflexes, is what survives the waves.
- Mushrooms act as walls that bend the crawler's path; hazards kill the segments that pass over them.
- Both placements draw from a budget that refills over time, so you can't carpet the board at once.
- Survive and score across escalating waves of faster, longer crawlers.
Controls
- Desktop: left-click plants the selected tile, right-click lays the other; keys 1 and 2 pick Mushroom or Hazard.
- Phone & tablet: choose Mushroom or Hazard with the selector, then tap a cell to place it — touch supported.
Game modes
- Practice — endless waves to experiment and chase a high score.
- Daily — everyone faces the same seeded field for a fair leaderboard.
Tips & strategy
- Funnel the crawler into a long, winding corridor lined with hazards rather than killing it head-on.
- Spend your budget steadily — leave reserve for emergency walls when a split goes wrong.
- Plan for the multiplication: every hit makes two threats, so design for the swarm, not the single bug.
Origins
Shroomfield draws on the early-80s field shooter where a segmented crawler winds down through a thicket of mushrooms, splitting into independent pieces each time you hit it. One of the first arcade hits designed to appeal to a wide audience, with trackball-style aim.
