Query Quest
Crack each research riddle by typing smart queries into a sandboxed search engine — phrase it, filter it, and beat par on the number of searches.
How to play
Read a research riddle, then query an offline mock search engine to find the answer in its fixed fictional corpus. Use search operators to narrow results, read the snippets, and submit your answer. Fewer, sharper queries score higher against par.
- Use exact-phrase quotes, a minus sign to exclude words, intitle: and keyword: filters
- Read result snippets and keywords to zero in on the answer
- Type your answer when you have it, then move to the next riddle
- Every search counts toward par — golf for the fewest queries
Game modes
- Daily: one shared multi-riddle quest per day
- Practice: fresh randomized quests on demand
Controls
- Desktop: type a query and press Enter or click Search; type an answer and press Enter or click Answer
- Phone & tablet: tap the query box to type and tap Search, then enter your answer (a keyboard helps with operators)
Tips & strategy
- Wrap distinctive multi-word terms in quotes and exclude common decoy words to cut a long result list fast
- A hint costs you a query, so try one well-built search with intitle: or keyword: before spending one
