Seega

Seega has two phases. First, players take turns dropping two pieces at a time onto any empty cell except the centre, until all twenty-four are down. Then the player who did not place last moves first: slide a piece one cell up, down, left or right into an empty square. Capture by sandwiching an enemy piece between two of yours, one move can capture on several sides at once. Clear every enemy piece, or leave the opponent unable to move, to win.

• Placement: drop two pieces per turn anywhere except the forbidden centre cell.
• Movement: slide one piece a single step orthogonally into an empty cell.
• Trap an enemy between two of your pieces by moving into the closing position to capture it.
• A piece that moves itself between two enemies is safe, only the closing move captures.

• vs Computer: choose Easy, Medium, or Hard.
• Hot-seat: two players alternate on the same device.
• Online: create an invite, join by code, or quick-match a stranger.

• Desktop: during placement click empty cells; during movement click a piece then a highlighted square.
• Phone & tablet: tap to place, then tap a piece and tap an adjacent empty cell to slide.

• In the placement phase, build clusters so your first slides immediately threaten captures.
• Seek moves that close two or more sandwiches at once for multi-captures.
• Control the centre and the edges where enemy pieces have fewer escape squares.

Seega is a hunt-and-capture game from North Africa, long played in Egypt and the surrounding lands on a simple grid scratched in the ground or cut into stone. Nineteenth-century travelers described it being played everywhere, from village squares to the tops of ancient monuments, a folk game in the same broad family as the morris and alquerque games.
