How to play

You run the dispatch desk of a power grid for one shift. You can never build new plants, you only re-dispatch the generators you have and, when desperate, shed a district. Each tick, demand changes along a seeded daily curve that rises to a heatwave peak beyond your always-on capacity, so you must plan ahead. Match total generation to total load: too little and the frequency sags, too much and it soars. Advance the tick and keep the grid alive to the end of the shift.

Origins

Grid Operator draws on the real job of a power-system control-room operator, where the electricity you use must be generated at the very instant you use it, second by second, with no meaningful storage. Real grids hold their alternating current near a fixed frequency (60 Hz in North America), balance flows across transmission lines that can overload and trip, and dread the cascading failures that turn one tripped line into a regional blackout. This game compresses that continuous balancing act into a tight, readable daily puzzle.
