Box Balance

An equation sits on a balance scale — keep both sides equal as you peel away terms until the unknown box is left standing on its own.

How to play

Each puzzle is a linear equation shown as a two-pan balance. Choose an operation — add, subtract, multiply, divide, expand brackets, or collect the x terms — and it's applied to both sides at once, keeping the equation legal. Work step by step until the box (the unknown) is isolated and its value is revealed. A par count tells you the efficient number of moves to aim for.

• Use expand and collect to simplify before isolating the unknown.
• Solve when the box stands alone equal to a number.
• Beat par by reaching the solution in as few moves as possible.

• Daily: the same equation for everyone, in Easy, Medium, or Hard.
