A hop-and-dodge crossing game where the entire world is scrolling beneath you, so there's no such thing as a safe tile to rest on.
Hop one tile at a time across a relentless stream of road and river lanes. Cars flatten you on the asphalt, water drowns you unless you ride a passing log or current, and because the whole frame keeps scrolling you can never stop moving. The course is seeded, so every lane is a fixed, learnable challenge.
The hop-and-dodge crossing is Frogger's, and so is the failure state of being caught between lanes.
The original element is that the whole world scrolls beneath you, so there is no safe square to wait on. Standing still is itself movement.
That removes the parent game's rhythm. Frogger is punctuated — dash, wait, dash — and the waiting is where you plan. Take away the stationary square and the game becomes continuous, with the planning happening while you are already committed.
Driftcross is an original free browser game that reworks the classic lane-hopping crosser by scrolling the whole world, removing safe rows and turning every step into a moving-frame survival decision.
