Cipher Steppe
Crack an unfamiliar alphabet like a code-breaker — cross-reference words to rebuild its hidden sound table.
How to play
You face a non-Latin script with its letter-to-sound key hidden. You are shown short foreign words alongside their transliterations, and you must rebuild the alphabet by comparing letters that appear across several words. Assign each symbol the sound you deduce, and check your table once you think it holds together.
- Compare words that share symbols to pin down sounds
- Select a letter, then assign it the sound you've deduced
- Check your table to confirm the assignments
- Reveal is there if you want to give up the round
Controls
- Desktop: click symbols and sound options; use Up/Down arrows to move between letters
- Phone & tablet: tap symbols and sound buttons — fully touch-driven
Game modes
- Daily: the same script puzzle for everyone each day
- Practice: a fresh alphabet to crack every run
Tips & strategy
- Start with short words and shared symbols — they constrain the most
- Lock in a symbol you're certain of, then propagate it through every word it appears in
- Watch for repeated symbols within one word; they often reveal a vowel
