Axis of Evil

A persuasive chart is trying to fool you. Name its trick, then flip the right switches to rebuild it honestly and watch its spin evaporate.

How to play

Each round shows a chart making a bold claim through a visual deception. First tag the trick it uses. Then rebuild the honest version by toggling fixes — start the axis at zero, show the full range, un-invert the axis, or scale areas honestly — and the misleading message collapses. The bigger the spin you dismantle, the higher you score.

• Deceptions include truncated axis, cherry-picked range, area distortion and inverted axis.
• Tag correctly and rebuild fully for the most points.
• A run is five charts with a running total.

Controls

• Desktop: click a deception tag, then toggle the rebuild checkboxes and Submit.
• Phone & tablet: tap the tag and the fix toggles — fully touch-friendly.

Game modes

• Daily: a shared seeded set of charts.
• Practice: fresh randomized charts each run.

Tips & strategy

• Check the y-axis start and range before reading any trend.
• If bubbles or shapes encode value, suspect area distortion and apply honest scaling.
