Slide Keys

Slide blocks around a tight grid to clear a path for the gold block to reach the exit. Key blocks are special: when one reaches its lock, walls dissolve and the maze reshapes, opening routes that weren't there a move ago.

Sliding blocks around a tight box to free one particular block is Klotski, a puzzle thought to date to the early 20th century — its relatives include the Pennant Puzzle copyrighted in Chicago in 1909, Dad's Puzzle from 1926, the French L'Âne rouge and China's Huarong Dao.

The original addition is that key blocks reshape the board: bring one to its lock and walls dissolve, opening routes that did not exist a move ago.

Klotski's difficulty is entirely the fixed box — every solution is a sequence of shuffles inside walls that never move. Making the walls conditional means the puzzle has phases, so a position that is genuinely stuck can be the correct one to reach.
