Line of Best Guess
Drag a line through the scatter to minimize the squared error, then stake your fit by betting where the next point will fall.
How to play
In the fit phase, drag the trend line's ends or body through a cloud of points; red residual sticks and a live squared-error readout show how good your fit is. Lock it in, then drag a marker up or down the forecast column to bet where the next hidden point lands. The true point is revealed and scored — and a line that overfits the scatter forecasts worse.
- Minimize the sum of squared errors (and watch the R-squared) to fit well.
- An Auto-fit button drops in the least-squares line if you want to compare.
- Your total combines a fit score and a forecast score.
Controls
- Desktop: drag the line handles or body, click Auto-fit, then drag the forecast marker.
- Phone & tablet: drag the line and marker with your finger — fully touch-friendly.
Game modes
- Daily: a shared seeded dataset.
- Practice: a fresh randomized dataset each round.
Tips & strategy
- Aim the line through the middle of the cloud, balancing residuals above and below.
- Don't chase every point — a sensible fit predicts the next one better than a fussy one.
